Short walk on RoW from minor road to SW. Pillar is indeed in a poorly state with top badly damaged and an odd screed coating on all vertical faces largely cracked and broken away; further damage has been sustained to 2 vertical edges. All looks like frost damage to either a weak mix, or has been hit allowing water ingress. Such is condition that it must surely be moved on from 'Slightly Damaged' to 'Damaged' imho. Original cap retained, deeply indented lettering; rear sight hole open. Nice 360deg panorama, particularly S to northern escarpment of South Downs.

I parked on 'loop' road just to the north of A272 near Beggars Corner. Then it was just a simple matter of following footpaths directly to the pillar. As others have said some of the cladding has gone and the top has been damaged where someone has tried to remove the spider. However, an original metal indented lettered plug remains. A nice pastoral location.

Circular walk from Lodsworth (good pub there and an excellent example of sustainable architecture in their new community shop). Trig has now lost most of its render, and someone has tried to lever out the spider, taking chunks out of the top. Also (a first for me) weeds growing in the top, inhabited by a colony of vicious biting ants! No views to north, but great views of South Downs all the way east to Chanctonbury Ring.
