A pity the previous bagger [ETA: previous but one, now] didn't get to talk to the lady of the house - she was sweeping up the leaves in the pathway when I arrived this afternoon. Straightaway I apologised for the state of my muddy boots... and she was lovely and very chatty! Her concrete neighbour was a bit grotty round the FB and had some rubbish in one of the loopholes, so I gave it a wipe and put the trash where it belonged. Good nick; no views; a bit sunken; an unusually high FB number for this neck of the woods; remnants of white paint on pillar and red paint on bracket.

A replacement pillar, with a GR of 1m further S from the original - perhaps the covered reservoir boundary fencing forced the move. Pillar located on a scruffy FP sandwiched between the northern limits of Luton's sprawling housing estates and the aforementioned reservoir. Tarmac comes up to base of FB so all sight holes are below grd level. Original cap missing, asphalt (could be mortar) plug. Badly chipped top edges. No views.

Second of two trigs on the way home after dropping lad off at the airport. Drove through housing estate spread through N. Luton, parked up at end of Hampshire Way and found trig easily along footpath after unusual water tower. Has this trig been moved? No views to linger over, I found it hard to imagine the view S before all the houses were built. Visited the 'source' of the River Lea 1.5 km S, as the crow flies, as it was marked on the OS map; hard to imagine it becomes a river and canal finally flowing into the Thames.
