We finally made it to the famous Minion trig - my little trigbagger was delighted with this one. We parked up on Byron Drive and took the nearby ROW (you could easily go further up into the estate and park at the trig on Folly Way tbf) through the scrap of woodland between old and new build estates. The pillar has been brilliantly retained by a developer with a sense of humour in the ROW/ginnel access between two properties on the new build estate, still sporting the slightly scruffy Minion paint job. The metalwork is all still present, and despite some wear and tear, the pillar looks in good shape. Brilliant trig to visit, and as easy as they come. #87 for my little trigbagger.

I was nearby on business so decided to tick this one off. Monk Bretton is quite a nice suburb of Barnsley but this trig point is accessed via an area of wasteland and a man walking a dog informed me it was frequented by drug users. The pillar is now just inside a small area being developed for housing. A site worker allowed me access and took an interest in what I was doing though he didn't know what would happen to the pillar. I assume it will be moved, destroyed or become a feature in someones garden. I hope its the latter. It still has the minion artwork but is now fading. The pillar is generally in good condition and retains the original centre in the spider.

Did a ten miler parking at Dearne Valley Park and touring up to Staincross, taking in a bit of the TPT and the Barnsley Canal. Access is sooo easy follow the public footpath sign near the Pheasant pub and it's on the path behind the res. Surprise of the day - you can see Upton water tower from the top (the high point of the Went valley where I live).

Visible and easily accessible at side of public footpath. I parked near the cross and went up the reservoir road to join the enclosed path at the side of the cricket ground. This took me directly to the pillar. Unfortunately it has been subjected to some paint and gaffiti - but hey its still there and standing proud. Not the best location for views, too enclosed.

I agree that it is a surprise that the plug has remained intact on this one given all the other abuse the trig seems to have suffered. It looks like its been in a slapstick show with red and white paint poured over it. My first time in Barnsley and its true – everyone speaks like Michael Parkinson.
