I parked on the road. Through the gate and a 200m sprint across a now vacant field to this lovely trig point. The summer evening light and panoramic views of Teesdale adds quality to this trig.

Out on a joint effort with Carole to visit the pillars at Shacklesborough, Currock and Brown Riggs and as we had some time to spare after our walk thought we could get to some of the nearby field pillars. This one proved very easy to get to although on private land. We parked on the road to the north and used the track to the mast before hopping over a gate by the mast and simply crossed the field to the highly visible pillar. Although well guarded by a flock of sheep. Obviously we used the correct password 'Baa' and they let us pass. Pillar in good condition although the plug is missing leaving the interior of the pillar open to the elements. A very nice field pillar.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 19th October 1947 costing £5.5s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NZ42/T45 in 1948. Levelled for height in 1955. Last maintained by the OS in November 1980. SITE VISIT: Approached from NNE. Parked with care, NE side of the B6278 beside quarry entrance at NZ021216, road busy and traffic fast. Followed track along east side of field then beeline for trig from nearest point. Empty grazing field. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces 298° WNW. All four sight holes open, pillar bolt viewable. Open outlook to trees surrounding hills and some longer views. Dominated by comms mast.

I spotted this pillar in a field, close to the road, on my way home from the Scottish Cache Bash. It would have been churlish not to stop and take it's photograph. The pillar is in good condition apart from the missing top plug. Views are average for the area without being spectacular.
