Front face of pillar totally overtaken by a large blue plaque - one of two I found on today's trigspedition. Might return to this neck of the woods if there are others nearby. Pillar is in the middle of a hedge, but some gardening has been done to completely expose it. That's the good news. The bad news is that its base had multiple bags of dogmess around it, which just makes me hate dog owners. Surely it's better to leave it unbagged if you're just going to leave it in the countryside? Idiot me then hung my trusty walking stick on a branch in the hedge whilst I took my usual pics of the pillar, and then forgot to retrieve it, so I'm now without a nettlewhacker, and I'm also unwittingly guilty of littering. Easily accessed, good condition, decent views, and carrying interesting local information, this pillar should not have been the most annoying part of today's trip.

Pillar not visible from the road along hedge line so climbed over fence into field on north of path and walked west looking into the hedge. After about two hundred and fifty meters realised I must have missed it crossed through hedge to south side and walked back east towards the road. About fifty meters from the road pillar is nestled deep in the hedge. It has a blue information plaque on the south side. Put there by the local authority. Indicates that its historical significance is appreciated. FB also on that side which is the only side exposed. Spider and cap in place. Good views to north over the top of the hedge.

At first I was looking to the sides for the FB plate, nope, not there , surely they didn't cover it with the big blue thing ? The only way to see the far side of the pillar (the hawthorn is dense) was to lean over the top of the pillar ... no, no FB there. Easy to find just down a bridleway from a rough lay by on main road. Lovely views over south derbyshire. Information plate on side of trig is very interesting. Other side of the main road is an old observer corp nuclear bunker completely buried under bracken. Went down it years ago so I assume it is still there.
