Happy to report that the trig is still in good condition; pleasant Boxing Day stroll up from visitors’ centre. Content with view from barbed wire fence. Think it’s Darwen Tower that can be seen on skyline beyond the trig.

Parked at the Grey Mare pub and walked along side the Grane Road until picking up the track. It’s not a well trod route and the reeds were high. The good views were a good reward for our efforts!

I know that if it had not been raining we would have been able to see lots. We couldn't even see the turbines but could hear them. Had a very grumpy teenager by the end of it !

Great views, you need to climb over the barbed wire topped fence, but theres a spot where the barbed wire has been folded over for easier access.

2nd Trig of todays walk. I reached this one by crossing Elton Road then veering off the public footpath, following a stone wall and fence first up a hill then left until seeing the pillar. Hopped over the low point of the fence to the pillar. It's white paint needs redoing but the fb looked pristine. Back the way I came then headed south east back to the PRoW and towards Clough Head visitors centre.

Parked at Grey Mare Inn. No obvious footpath and you will have to negotiate a barbed wire fence to get access. Basically at the top of the hill by the wind turbines. Amazing views all around.

Walked up from Clough Head car park. Not the easiest approach, very apt name for the hill! Base quite prominent, a good foot out of the moorland. Looks like some sort of bird of prey has left its poop on the plastic cap! And just joined by a snooping big (mountain?) hare. Onwards to Hog Lowe Pike and back to the car before they lock up at 5:30!

Parked opposite the Grey Mare Inn then up along the side of the road to the gate on the left, go up the path over the stile, follow the dry stone wall until it ends then follow it round to the left, Trig is in the field over the wall but you have to navigate over the barbed wire to get to it, Trig in good condition on its own base good views off in all directions. Replacement centre cap fitted

Walked from The Grey Mare. Appropriately named hill as you have to wade waist high through the stuff, but to be fair it was dry underfoot. Too hazy for good views today.

Circular hike from Hoddlesden. 3 of 3 trigs bagged. Revisited this trig fom April this year. Had to visit it as I was passing it ;) Followed the FP from the Calf Hey Resv up through Haslingden Grane over the B6232 up to the trig by the windmills. Access is not so easy. Follow the right side of the brick wall to the top then along the fence which you have to straddle.

This is 3 of a 5 circular bagging. Not so easy to bag as you have to climb over a barbed fence. The pillar is just up from the Rossendale Way (West Pennine Way). The path is not very well-marked.

Another visit to repaint the trig (my facebook threw up a memory telling me that it had been six years since I last painted it). The flush bracket didn't really need touching up, but I wire-brushed the lichens off the pillar and gave it a new coat of Crown Paint's finest!

Beautiful trig with a fine square support base and b&w footplate. Glorious frosty blue and sun glowed afternoon. Grey rolling to the east over the higher Pennine and on to the distant flanks of Pen y Ghent. Ingleborough and further north in the sunshine. Pink yellow gold sun set over Darwen Tower and Winter Hill. Fantastic spot overlooking the Irwell divide.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 20th April 1948 costing £20.19s.0d. Computed as seconday triangulation station SE02/8 within the Rochdale block during 1948. Levelled for height in 1961. Last maintained by the OS in September 1979. SITE VISIT: Approached from NNW. Parked in pub car park, it was 5am and the pub doesn't open until noon. Alternative parking outside old barn opposite. Walked up B6232 to start of mapped RoW but took a beeline SE across access land to top. Spider centre contains a grey plastic cap, fitted 4/06/2000 by JWR. Flush bracket faces SSW, ~203°. Vented through SE sight hole. Full 360° panoramic view.

Parking at the Pub then along a difficult to follow footpath along the road, then off ROW to summit, pillar is located in a fenced off section of the hill top, I hoped over the fence, as I did not see the gap mentioned in other logs. Parked in car park East of pillar,just off the B6232,and then a short walk following good paths to pillar.Agree with painterman61 when he says pillar is in good condition,looks ok to me after the apparent repair.White (repaired!!) pillar on plinth,blacked FB,plastic plug in spider and one sight hole open.Excluding the wind farm,good 360° views.

Revisit after a walk around grange quarries pulled over to park near hyndburn sign on verge very busy road short stroll up hill.The trig is no longer on its own it now has many wind turbines behind it,trig has had a coat of paint FB in matt black as well plastic plug great views here again clouds in great formation could see blackpool tower clearly from here.P.S. on checking old log the top has been repaired by happycyclist so condition is now good not damaged.

Parked up a grass track on the apex of the main road corner, only 200m from pillar. Over a barbed wire fence. Badly eroded top, good views.

Stands on a very sturdy plinth - a bit over the top as the ground seems firm! However, the rot has really set in around the spider leaving it completely exposed.

Plug replaced by cover; trig on plinth; spider exposed but firmly attached. Views over Blackburn and towards Winter Hill. More cotton grass than rushy.

...on the last day of November. My first logged Trig Point on this site, and a place full of atmosphere. Bit too much traffic noise from the Blackburn Road for a high mark.

Top is damaged - probably vandalised. Visibility down to around 60 feet so a fair appraisal cannot be made of surroundings.

Cracks in the concrete have let water in and as a result calcium salts have been leached out of the concrete, redeposited giving the pillar a tufa shell. As well as this someone has had a good go at trying to remove the spider. Easy walk over the moors from the one parking place I could find.
