Lane to Southend farm looks like a through road. Confusing to get bearings. Asked a couple of runners for assistance but they seemed to think I wanted to get to Turville Heath. Then asked someone cutting their hedge who had seen the TP but couldn’t point me in the exact direction. After pulling over on a grassy area, set off on foot through gate and across field, headed north then east, had to get help from here, realised it was on the north east side of the field boundary from where I was, so slightly down hill. Over wire fence then a barbed wire fence and through thinnest part of hedge into corn field. Pillar visible on wide scrubby field boundary. Way out was to head south east along hedge line then over two gates back to lane. Good find.

Bagged en route from midlands to Richmond. Parked at pub in Turville. Quick half, thence to trig. Nothing more to add regarding the pillar, just to note it’s still good. Extended the walk to nearby deer park, with cafe.

Slightly hard to find using the Phone App as there is no signal around here. Easy hop over gate with unfriendly sign on it and quick walk up to the Trig. It is in a cut grass strip on the side of the field. The down hill cycle to Hambleden was the best bit of this one.

See route marked on satellite image attached. Field full of crop, trig was completely surrounded by tall thistle. I hastily chopped the thistle down on 2 sides of the trig. Trig in good condition with original metal cap, front sighthole plugged, right sighthole open, couldn't check the other 2 sightholes. I left a 2p coin in the right sighthole for the next visitor to find.

After the fiasco of Northend I was hopeful the Southend would be straightforward...no. Head high thistles and the noisiest Partridge to alert the farmer to my trespassing was not a good start! Pillar is easiest to access by driving down towards the main farm. Park outsid first barns. Over gate then imediately into field on your right, this saves crossing the fence later.Pillar in v good shape,ok views and a Red Kite above.

Set a little distance into the field on the E of the fence (you need to be in that field). You can get reasonably close on a tractor line, but then it is a case of ploughing into deep thistles and nettles - I regretted being in shorts. Vgc. Intact cap with indented letters.

Easy if you approach from the north. You can park on Dolesden Lane just about if you pull right into the hedge. When you cross the first stile at the top of the hill keep to the left and follow the bit of arable field and this will bring you to the trig. Plenty of kites about and plenty of tansy-leaved phacelia, a very pretty blue flower, which is a weed of cultivation found in hay fields. Plug with indented lettering.
