Followed signs for Exmansworthy and parked in small car park about half a mile south of the Coast Path. Initially started out heading west along the lane but then saw the track headed north east so went back to the car park where a footpath sign pointed north. Quite a wet and muddy path then a track. After about quarter of a mile path continued north but turned to west and headed across grassy field, along field boundary of first field then could see a mound of higher ground towards north west. Field a bit wet, at north west corner of field was a gate through to the next field which was right next to the pillar, through a gate, on a plinth, up a flight of wooden steps and on the gate is a small sign with the grid reference and the location name of Chapman Rock, so not sure why it’s called Stanbury Point on here. Spider and cap in place. Extra point for being well maintained in its own enclosure with a notice on the gate. Pushed a few weeds and ivy off the plinth, otherwise pretty clear of vegetation. Views to north out to sea including Lundy Island and south across farmland.

Our 5th and final trig whilst en-route to Bideford to get the ferry to Lundy (I think we overshot Bideford to have ended up here - fortunately the ferry didn't sail until the next day so we were in no danger of missing it!). Parked at Exmansworthy and followed the road NW to West Fattacott Farm and then, to avoid a long detour, we trespassed along field boundaries to the trig. Then followed the public cliff path west and returned via Gawlish Farm. Lovely views from the trig over to Lundy Island 12 miles distant, where we would be tomorrow and for the next 3 days. Pillar is in good condition. A sign on the gate close to it names it as Chapman Rock Trig Point - see my third photo.

Final trig of my 2010 expedition to Padstow for the Mayday celebrations. It was warm, sunny and very pleasant; which made a change from the wind and rain I encountered at the last two pillars on Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor. I left the car in the little National Trust carpark at N51° 00.808’ W004° 28.017’ and followed the permissive path in the north-east corner. A nice, easy walk to join the South West Coast Path a couple of hundred yards to the east of the pillar. There were a lot of walkers on the path today. This pillar has it’s own access gate… lovely idea. The pillar is complete and in good condition apart from a few names being scratched into the top spider. The plug is of the shallow indented variety. The cliff-top view is very nice with out being spectacular. Worth a visit if you’re down this way.
