Sunrise Hill Local Nature Reserve. Entrance on Landcroft Crescent - part way up the steps take the path on the right going uphill. Pillar not just toppled but also very badly damaged. Base remains in place. All metal work now gone, except part of the spider. To be frank, this is not an attractive place.

Sadly a suburban battered pillar. Not a bad location though with good views over Nottingham. Although the FB has disappeared I have recorded it here to ensure the records show I visited an extant trig pillar.

re-visit. took a residential road off the main road and climbed first part of steps signed to Sunrise Hill Nature Reserve. narrow path off to right through over grown grass leads to pillar. toppled since my first visit, and I thought then a more tended and open area.

Toppled pillar in poor condition , Pillar is unsurprisingly at the top of the hill - follow the dirt path roughly eastwards for 50 metres from the steps situated on the main path through the park . For those non locals this is one of the dodgiest parts of Nottingham so don’t hang around too long !! Park on Landcroft Crescent and enter the park through the main gates - prob a 5 min walk each way

(1414) Parked on Landcroft Crescent close to the entrance for the litter strewn 'park'. Still early so no-one else about, except for a Fox that I startled. Once inside headed to the right, and the pillar was soon reached. In a sorry old state, which is a shame. Surprised it survived as long as it did really. Toppled since 2008, and missing its flush bracket (S4619) since around 2012. Spider still present though. Pillar history: Built on the 25th of August 1948, at a cost of £9 6s 2d. Last maintained by the OS in January of 1983.

Toppled pillar in tree fringed secluded grassy area at E side of Sunrise Hill local nature reserve. Weak hazy sunshine and strangely peaceful with bird song over the background hum of city life. By cycle.

To Nottingham to visit Sis#2, who was happy to accompany me on a little light trigging. This the first - still there, with spider, but otherwise toppled and looking very sorry for itself. Also surrounded by trees, so limited views only S down over Arnold. However, good that a patch of greenery has survived in a huge housing estate. [FB for logging purposes only].

approached through the gates on landcroft crescent,veered off to the right,was pleasantly surprised by the location,views okay,nice and quiet,only birdsong filled the air,mind you,the urchins should have been in school by now!!the pillar deserves better than this!!!

Oh dear. This one has had a hard life. Spider remains but attempts have been made to remove it. FB missing. Pillar itself knocked over to reveal remains of the bolt which has lost its spike/pin. Plastic cap shattered. Surrounding grassy area burnt. In all - very sad to see them abused like this.

Parked by the gates on Landcroft Crescent and up the small incline.The spider is still attached but for how much longer? The area was very quiet today with no sign of troglodytes, urchins or even anyone at all. Limited views. I would describe the condition of the pillar as damaged and toppled.

Poor trig has finally come to its demise. Some local troglodite as stolen it's identity. Flush bracket, plug and levelling brass work gone. The spider is in a state of being chiselled off.

Hadn't checked beforehand to see if this one had survived so was pleasantly surprised to see it had and that it was accessible, even if it was on its side. I suppose it now makes a seat of sorts. It was a bit tempting to try to make off with the flush bracket before it gets more mangled. Absolutely deserted though for what was unexpectedly quite a nice little spot.

On a visit to Nottm with my brother. On sloping ground of a large grassed area surrounded by housing. Pillar is toppled with rubbish strewn around but all the brass is still there. Some views, partially obscured by trees.

Walked from City Centre a little apprehensive,the pillar as stated by others toppled.I then walked away from pillar up to open ground and was surprised the amount of open land.Two masts sit on summit and the views across City centre to Charnwood Hills are superb.I left with a spring in my step as i could imagine some locals enjoying this oasis in this vast estate .

Stopped on the way to a walk from Woodborough. A strange open area in the middle of an estate – almost as if it was left around the trigpoint and the steep bank. Agree with Crazy – this could be a pleasant open space with some tlc – shows what the locals think of it – the base has been anointed with dog …….

A shame that the trees will completely block out the view once the leaves come out. The poor old trig still lies broken in a neglected open space. This spot could be made a lot more of.

Very sad this one. Years of vandalism and abuse probably. As previous reports it is now broken off near the base and lying on its back. Easy enough to find. Go through the pretty gates on Landcroft Cresent and head to the right and up the hill. This was probably a lovely view once.

Some local youth's playing with their dog at the trig (Their coats covered FB Number)got some strange looks whilst posing for the quick photo. Made a quick escape back to the car, intact and no damage to the car whilst it was left alone on the street.

I last visited here on 31st Dec 2004 [nearly 4 years ago]. Others reported, and I could see, the base was significantly cracked. But in the area, so returned again today, to find the stone completely broken and now toppled. Its a sad sight isn't it. [having just posted this report, the robot says that my report disagrees with the logged condition. I hope the photos help in demonstrating that the stone is in fact toppled. parked on local estate road and easy access to trig, pillar as a large crack around the bottom, a few local lads nearby had a good look as i was taking photo's and making notes but they seemed ok and even said hello. not as romantic as the name suggests.

2/13 On a nature resurve sanwiched in-between lots of houses. A crack Runs all the way round the pillar about 1/10 up and there is a chunk missing from a corner. plastic fill in the spider. very good views of nottingham. drizerling.

on open ground, very near to the Bestwood Estate, Nottingham. Damaged with large cracks round the base. Paint, molten plastic and fire damage. Just no care.

Situated on top of a small scarp of open access land and obviously the target of the local vandals. Very blackened by fire, and a very nasty crack around the entire pillar just above sight-hole height. Two hooks gone. Plug replaced by plastic insert. All sightholes open. Broken glass all around it. Numbers on flush bracket painted white. Good views over west Nottingham.

Reckoned that this one would be highly appropriate for a visit on the summer solstice, but I was 5 hours too late and the area is by no means as romantic as it sounds! Base of pillar is badly cracked all round. FB and Spider are present. Plug was presumably plastic but has melted in the heat of fires.

Located in a scrubby 'urban park', apparently defying all the local vandals could throw at it (top covered in yellow paint). Was asked by local urchin if I was the Police - might have felt safer if I was!!
