Parked in the gateway to the Flying club and walked across to the trig. Sits on the boundary between two fields. Nothing special to see. Cap missing.

About two miles north east of Maiden Newton. Approached from Cerne Abbas direction. Pillar visible from A37, from junction, after about four hundred meters, pulled in at field entrance on east side of road opposite entrance to property on west of road. Slightly overlooked, no hanging around, over gate, couple of hundred metres across field to pillar. FB defaced, spider and cap in place.

I wasn't planning on stopping for this pillar, but I saw it on the satnav and then I saw it out of the car window and thought it was a possible option for stopping. Then I found a gate into the field with enough space for my car. So the decision was made.

Drove up to modal aircraft field. Walked field edge to trig which was in old hedge line. Chatted yo men with their planes!

Hadn't planned to visit this one, but on perusing the map before driving home it looked to be an easy one, and it was. Walked around the field edge and then up the strip of grass between fields to reach the pillar which has an asphalt cap & 2 s/h's open. On approaching the pillar I was accompanied by a pair of fluttering wrens. Delightful.

Parked at field entrance opposite access track to Hill Barn Farm, walked field margins to trig; located on a boundary strip between 2 recently planted fields. Pillar in good condition; cap missing, asphalt plug; LHD and rear sight holes open. 360deg panorama of farmland and distant hills.

First of five easy roadside trigs on a drive from Dorset to Cornwall. In field margin, adjacent to a model aircraft flying area (in use, but they didn't seem too bothered by me!). Hazy views all round. W s/hole open, asphalt cap, vgc.

Arrived here just as the heavens opened and even though it's visible from the road I still got soaked getting this one. Views of black clouds and driving rain. Plug missing, asphalt filled.

The pillar lies on a flat summit on the boundary of two large fields of clover; it has an asphalt plug and FB S5830. Mist and low cloud limited any potential view from the site. The slope of Cowdown Hill was shrouded in cloud to the east; the nearby Wessex Ridgeway to the south; the Rampisham Down transmitters are to the northwest and the sun was shining over Batcombe Hill to the north.

In what was an old hedgeline between two [unusually] spring-planted cereal fields. Asphalt plug replacement. No paint. S sighthole open, others closed. Concrete base exposed about 3" allround. Reasonable all-round views.

The hedgeline this trig is shown on is virtually non-existent and the trig is visible from the road. We parked on the side-road to Maiden Newton in a field entrance opposite the footpath that goes to Cattistock. The field was still stubble so underfoot conditions were good. Good growth of lichen on the pillar. Tarmac plug.
