Easy to spot from the road you can just pull up and nip up the hill to the flats. Very unusual place to see a trig point.

Moved and swallowed up by a housing estate the views now are towards the city centre with two high rise tower blocks in the background. The pillar is generally in good condition and retains the original centre in the spider.

We have all seen the photos of the Pyramids in Cairo. One view, amazing, beautiful… the other a hustling and bustling city surrounding it, metres away from the monuments. This is the Yorkshire version, beautiful view across the city of Sheffield from one side, towering tower blocks of flats from the other side

Easy roadside Trig to bag, looks strange sat at the side of two large tower blocks but glad it's still standing after building work on it's previous location not too far away meant thankfully the Sheffield council relocated it safely

What an atmosphere, the sunglow diminishing over the distant moors where we were walking earlier. Very Sheffield spot, bit rough, loads of countryside and a general feeling of trying to look after the locals...tram link included.

Tram stops, jump out and sprint round corner, take quick photos, sprint back and jump in to get same tram back. Preferable to hanging around where kids looked to be about to throw stones at it.

(403) A day out in Sheffield, and this was the first port of call. Hopped on the tram to the Herdings Park terminus, and then it was a short walk to the Pillar. And just as I arrived, the snow started to come down. Thankfully it didn't last long, but boy, it was super cold today. Interesting to read previous logs for this one, and I must admit that I'm slightly surprised that it has survived. So hats off to whoever was behind it's preservation. Now, depending on your point of view, this is either my 2nd Yorkshire Pillar, or my 1st Derbyshire one.

Easy roadsider liked the location of this one trig in vgc with cap wish more developers would re-locate trigs like this.Felt like i was right in the middle of a big city here.

Having a day out travelling the Sheffield Supertram network. A 10 minute turnround stop at The Herdings terminus just gives you time to make the visit. As the pillar has been moved since my original visit, a repeat was in order, and a chance to log an arrival by a different method of transport ( done bike, bike/walk, car/walk, canal/walk, train/walk, bus/walk !).

Another revisit before catching a tram back to Sheffield City centre to see the elephants - they weren't there; packed their trunks and trundled off :( Plug intact; one hook cut through; minor graffiti. All well, considering.

good to see that after previous logs this has now been placed at the above co-ordinates set in a grassy bank approximately 65 yards from original site. Presumably once the builders have finished in the area, it will be seeded and tidied up a bit. Cannot critiscise the council/builders at all in regards to saving the pillar - comments on facebook state flush bracket wrong way round and trig leaning - just glad that it has been saved!

we found the trigpoint but sadly it was lying on its side on a pallet. It's in the middle of a building site.

Having looked at this on Google earth seemed straight forward enough. It was near to blocks of flats on a suburb of Sheffield. When I arrived there found it has been transformed into a building site with quite a few houses being built. Walked round the security fence not expecting to see any sign of the trig point but just noticed it above some rubble. Looks like it has had a coat of paint recently. Tried to access the site, as all had gone home, but no joy. The whole site was locked as tight as a can be and considering the area I do not blame them. Have taken photos from a distance I hope that they leave the trig point alone but I suspect once the roads are put in it will disappear...shame! TFTV

Revisited whilst waiting for a tram. Housing development still in progress and the trig is not yet accessible. The pillar looks in good condition but couldn't tell if it is in the original location.

Housing development coming along. The pillar is 10m inside the fenced enclosure underneath a small copse of trees in the fenced off "Tree protection area". This looks like it will be retained.

I think it has gone. Building work started exactly where the trig should be. No sign of it through the metal fencing.Update 11/02/14. Sheffield city council planning department have said that the trig point is fenced off inside the builders compound and will be left untouched. Time will tell. UPDATE. 8th March 2015 As previous logs, it has now been re-sited on the bank near to the road. 10 out of 10 to Sheffield City Council and the builders for not destroying the trig.

Not been to this bit of Sheffield before, but it is a trig you can drive up close to, being just off the ring road. No problems with access, trig is at the top of a grassy bank in front of the blue tower. White paint still ok, OS marked metal cap. Good view of Sheffield city centre from the nearby bus layby, trees prevented this view from the pillar today.

10/13 What a pleasant surprise after reading previous logs. The trig is curently in pristine condition and can be driven to within a few feet. The tower blocks can be seen from many miles away.

Pleasantly surprised by this location – looks as though the council has made an excellent job of renovating two block of flats. According to Wikipedia there were originally three blocks of flats built in 1959 and known locally as the three sisters but one was deemed unsafe and demolished in 1996. The other two Queen Elisabeth Court and Queen Anne Court were refurbished in 1998.

A day of blustery showers. Just after I'd got back in my car down came the rain - trig and tower blocks framed by a rainbow. That and the unusual urban location scores a 6/10. Shame about the graffiti as this pillar is otherwise in good shape.

Night time visit for a YOSM geocache. Drove to within a few metres to find the pillar in the middle of a housing estate needing a new coat of paint. Views not bad and great that it is still here and well preserved!

Loved the location of this, has been carefully preserved in midst of a council estate and is surrounded by stone setts.Good views.Not marked on the latest 2007 OS Landranger map, sheet 110, but is shown on 1988 one.

Given the locality this seems a remarkably well respected pillar with all metalwork intact. It looks well against the green/blue and white cladding on the adjacent tower blocks.

Unpainted pillar amongst trees and street lights, with a few inches of snow on the ground making a picturesque sight, despite its urban setting which makes one doubt if it will survive much longer.
