After bagging Solar without challenge from site security I figured we could attempt to bag all the TPs on the Herstmonceux Castle estate / collage campus. The weather was so bloody awful I don't think security, who must have seen us, fancied leaving the warmth and shelter of their security control hut as we walked directly past them! Given how limited the views are the atrocious weather didn't matter, other than raindrops getting on the camera lens as we tried to take photographs in the teeth of the storm.

Pillar in a good condition located in the gardeners area. Accessed via the public footpath to the west. The 1982 computation date for this pillar may have been part of an effort to link various coordinate systems, including the Greenwich prime meridian, together before the Cooke Reversible Transit Circle (TP15262) in the building to the north was moved to La Palma.

About 800 metres almost due north from the GPS live pillar. Walk past the Castle keeping it on the right. Up to a small vegetable plot with a couple of green houses. Pillar is there. Uninteresting location and no views but a lovely high number on the FB, gets extra points.

From near the church, walked up the road by the gatehouse and then on the right is a RoW through the woods. Followed the tracks to a gate with barbed wire on top and no admittance signs. Hopped over and then hopped over the immediate next gate with the same signs. Leads you into their gardening / allotment area. No one around at this time so eventually found the trig after a wee search in the head high nettles. Ouch.

Bit of a tricky one to get to. Tried the honest approach but the guard in his hut at the end of the driveway said it was all locked up and wouldn't let me walk up to bag the pillar. Easiest way is to park by the nearby church, walk back up the road and onto the bridleway on the right marked by a boundary stone. Walk through the woods (lovely bluebells) to a gate at the end. It's a quick hop over two gates (both marked no admittance to unauthorised persons) to find the pillar just inside the castle grounds adjacent to a greenhouse and shed. Pillar half-buried in nettles and has a concrete "bowl" on top hiding the plug.

This pillar is in the castle grounds but in the estate nursery section and out of bounds to the public (theoretically). Its a short hop over the fence and about 50 yards away next to greenhouses etc. The trig had some kind of concrete bowl on top but I don't think this was for OS purposes. Plug with raised lettering.
