He said to ignore him if challenged! Pillar visible from the roadside, and just a gate to climb to get a closer look. All good, and still retaining its original centre cap - lightly indented lettering. Pillar history: Built on the 17th of May 1938, at a cost of £2 10s 6d. Last maintained by the OS in May of 1984.

Easy to find and parkable. Entry into field by a gate. Pillar is in another compound. You may get spotted by the landowner and he will challenge you; I was. He doesn' t mind but wishes that people would bear in mind that they could introduce disease on their shoes which affect his sheep. It is his living; I did sympathise. I asked what he would like to happen, he replied that triggers should walk up to the farm, ask, and he would require them to disinfect their shoes. It's a big ask. The meteorological station nearby is really a legacy of the Cold War as a former nuclear bunker.
