I was driving along the road and out of the corner of my eye registered a familiar shape through the hedge ... seemed rude not to stop and have a look. I didn't go over the gate for a close look as the many signs on it suggest the farmer does not welcome random visitors. Photos taken and I moved on. Would never have noticed this when the hedge is in leaf.

Easy to find and parkable. Entry into field by a gate. Pillar is in another compound. You may get spotted by the landowner and he will challenge you; I was. He doesn' t mind but wishes that people would bear in mind that they could introduce disease on their shoes which affect his sheep. It is his living; I did sympathise. I asked what he would like to happen, he replied that triggers should walk up to the farm, ask, and he would require them to disinfect their shoes. It's a big ask. The meteorological station nearby is really a legacy of the Cold War as a former nuclear bunker.

Joint visit with Carole. The pillar is in a field to the north of Stockeston Lane and easy roadside parking is available. Access to the field is through a gate just to the west of the pillar. A second field has been created by fencing and whilst the pillar is beyond it, it can still be touched and reached without crossing this fence. it is in good condition and still retains an original metal indented lettered plug. Nothing really to commend the location other than the pillar still being there.
