Spotted pillar from road on approach from east then south. Pulled in at farm to north east of pillar just before village of Whilton. Looked like it was on farmland. Farmer arrived just as I was knocking on the door of the farmhouse. He showed me the gate to go through. About two hundred metres south of the farm house. Good views. Spider and cap in place. On return had a short chat with the farmer. He asked if it could be removed. I said it would probably need permission from the OS as although now redundant they are still their property. Also no easy task as they are sturdy objects with a large concrete base below ground.

Centre cap with lightly indented lettering. Pillar history: Built on the 12th of February 1949, at a cost of £9 10s 7d. Last maintained by the OS in December of 1999.

Unremarkable pillar in the middle of a sheepfield. FB in particularly good condition. Accessed from the south; counter-intuitively, the best way is to scale the gate to the right into the southern field, and then walk up to a pair of stiles into the trig field. This avoids clambering over an old barbed wire topped gate. (Other field entrances are available.) View will only appeal to enthusiasts of sheep.
