Revisit to Investigate the reports that the pillar has disappeared from the quarry. However, it is still there in exactly the same position it was last July on my last visit. Still hope yet that the land owner will reinstate the pillar somewhere in the vicinity - hopefully adjacent the public right of way that goes around the quarry. ETA Update: Mamba J Fox on the OS Trigpoints Facebook page has confirmed that the object in my photos is definitely the trig pillar! He managed to get into the quarry somehow and took a selfie of himself next to the pillar. Hence, the status of the pillar should be changed back to toppled.

Sadly, the quarry has now been extended into the area in which the pillar was located. Managed to stand on top of a wooden fence at SK 60503 46719 to take a look into the quarry. Spotted what appeared to be the pillar lying toppled within the quarry at roughly its original location. Was not possible to view the pillar from what is left of the field it used to be in, as there is now an embankment in front of a very tall fence which blocks the view into the quarry. From walking around the whole site, the view I got into the quarry appears to be the only view you can get. Not 100% certain that what appears to be the pillar is the pillar, as the object was around a third of a mile from my vantage point and my iphone 13 was on full zoom and blurry. However, it looks like the pillar, and assuming it is, hopefully it will be moved to and reerected at a new location nearby - hopefully on the public right of way. Would suggest that next visitor takes a pair of binoculars with them to get a better view to confirm whether the object is definitely the pillar, but I doubt whether it will remain in its present position for very long

Parked on a gravelled area across the road to the east. PROW entrance is off a busy B road. Looking at maps and pictures, PROW historically went straight on and was flanked by a hedge (and fence at some point) but has now been diverted around the field by a different hedge and fence. We followed this to the left and came across the gate Dazedemon mentions in Aug 2022 but the new fence now prevents access this way. Kept going left and there is public access into the field with sheep but soon come up against the new fence again. Trig looks in good condition but sadly unable to confirm. Would love to know if there’s access if approached from elsewhere.

As close as we could get. Standing at the new fence. Zoomed in as much as possible
