As with the pillars situation on military compounds I've decided that for Project Emily trigs I will content myself with driving up to the approximate location and have a look over the general area. Polebrook has a conveniently located memorial to the Americans based there during the war so I pulled into the parking lot and spent a short while taking in the enormity of what went on here 80 years ago. For anyone interested, there is a good film on youtube of the 351st at Polebrook. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4OOf1DFwIA

Agreed - certainly no sign of either pillar, interesting location with the Memorial and old Air Force buildings - there are piles of earth and stuff everywhere so fingers crossed the pillars or at least the remains might be around, in anyone can find them Peregrinus can!

One of a pair of Project Emily pillars: given location is 90m into arable field. East pillar was at TL 09657 86280, also 100m or so into the same arable field. No trace of either at original location and no apparent sign in the yard (old hanger and brick buildings) which appears to be used by a construction company. Some large concrete structures still in place 200m or so from each trig location and piles of earth / debris so the pillars could be buried in there somewhere. Rod Sladens researches indicate both had FBs but neither number is known.
