Nicely maintained, good coat of paint. Military Road is very busy, for safety reason I would recommend you access from the Hadrian Way Pathway on the South side of the road.

Roadside bags should be quite easy but the nature of the road meant that there wasn't a safe option to park up close by. In the end parked up on the forest road in the first dip to the west. Walked back up the road to the pillar. Not as good views as you'd expect for the location. I had actually passed close by this when I walked the Hadrian's Wall Path but at the time it made no impression on me. Beer in the Rat Inn at Anick.

Parked just off road at NY9676069101 and walked 600 metres east along B6318 to pillar. Hadrian's Wall Path is temporarily closed at this point and diversion is some distance from road. First proper log, numerous "drive-bys" have preceded this visit.

A miserable grey day and an even duller HWP route from Chollerford to Heddon. Yawn, yawn, following the B6318. Highlights were the pillar, now accessible from the PRoW to the S and the excellent coffee shop at The Portgate. Only one trig today and gifted to the white acorn used on national trails.

My second visit, different route. Parked at the (former pub, now) coffee house on the roundabout to the E and followed Hadrians Wall path W. The stone wall between the path and the road has been repaired since last visit, and as the TP is on the road side of the wall means a wee scramble to access the TP itself now.

Parked off the road at NY9676069115. Walked back along Hadrians Wall to the trig. There are steps / stones built into the wall which will let you hop over it, save walking along the road. Would have got a higher score but i'd spent all day in the wind and rain, and i had no more sandwiches left for the drive home.

12th of 13 trigs bagged along Hadrian's Wall hike. If you are walking the Wall path, you pass right by it. The trig is on the side of the road but on the other side of a wall. So from the path you cant get to it without getting over the wall, which is too difficult. I noticed there was a gate to climb over about 200 yds down the road but too trired to bother. The road is VERY busy. Could not see spider, the wall is too tall. Flush Bracket faces the road so didnt see that either.

Park just less than 1 k to west in woodland, on track, then walk east along Hadrian's Way path and use stile to get over stone wall,just by the trig. Trig is on north side of wall, on busy road. East section of woods by trig felled.

As it is nearly impossible to park on the verge on the B6318, like others I parked in the entrance to the track just west of pillar along the B6318 at NY 96756 69101. If coming from the east, look out for the 'hidden dip' signs just past the pillar, and the track entrance is just a bit further on.

Would suggest that attempting to park on or below the blind summit that the TP sits on along the B6318 is pretty foolhardy, the road is not only quite busy but very fast. We parked about quarter of a mile west of the TP at the end of the plantation where a gravel track gives access to the Hadrians Wall footpath. The walk back up through the wood is a short pleasant stroll, but the views from the TP itself are sadly restricted.

It was the object of a 53 mile bike ride from Morpeth. I have longed to bag it for years but it is in such an inconvenient place vis a vis other road users - I was nearly sucked into the road by a passing artic as I photographed the flush bracket.

They haven't trimmed the road verge recently: despite being road side you only see it at the last moment as it is obscured by weeds.

Trig on a platform next to road. I had a walk up from Acomb via Fawcett Hill to bag this one. Cloudy day but fine. Finished with a pint in The Rat at Anick.

Vgc pillar right by the roadside. Very very fast and busy road, so park about 500m to the west and walk back through the woods. Otherwise, good chance you'll get killed! FB faces north-ish with south-ish sighthole open only. No cap or plug. Virtually no views.

Last maintained by the OS in July 1978. SITE VISIT: Roadside pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces north, ~11° across road. Vented through south sight hole.

Attempted to park on roadside, but this is not sensible. There is a pull in 750m west, and then the Hadrian's Wall Footpath inside the trees.

Good view down the road in both directions but other than that forget it. Quite a tall trig, approx 5ft high on its plynth. Came up from Hexham Railway Station. No cars, on foot!

Yeah ...a Roman Military Road! Seated on a platform with a murky old wood behind it, the plug is missing and only the South sight remains open.

I logged this after having walked Stonehaugh to Twice Brewed, on the drive home! Walking along the wall to the north is surprisingly spectacular; arguably better than doing the wall itself...

Parking is tricky here as the road is so busy, so we parked on a track about half a mile further west and walked back along the Hadrian's Wall Path which is set back from the road a little. After visiting the trig I saw the glint of a buried bottle. Thinking it may have been antique, we then spent 20 mins digging it up only to find it was a Newcastle Brown bottle!
